GHS Homecoming 2015
Theme: “Show Your Bulldog Spirit”
We are encouraging all
7-12 students to become actively involved in their school spirit by attending
the VB and FB games our teams play in, participating in the dress up days,
decorating your class hall, and the Homecoming Football game. We want HS
students to attend the Homecoming Dance too. Not only should this be a
fun time to bond with your classmates, but show great support for your school
and develop some great school spirit. This a fun week, but an important week in
school sports.
This year classes will
earn “spirit” points by attending games, decorating their hall, participation
in the dress-up days, and the pep rally games. The team with the most points
will earn a special award that they will receive after the Homecoming week is
over. The breakdown of points will be as follows:
Game attendance—1 point per class member present for the game
or match. Mr. Caldwell will count students or designate another staff member to
do so. Games of attendance will be: VB vs. Prairie and the Homecoming game itself. Dress up days—1 point per student
appropriately dressed for the day’s theme. Additional points may be awarded to
students who really catch the spirit! Pep Rally participation and class games. Classes will earn points for each of these
activities at the pep rally. Hallway Decorations—classes will be awarded points for their
decorative efforts in relationship to the Spirit theme. Mr. Caldwell will
announce the winning class at halftime of the Homecoming game.
Dress Up Days
Monday— Redneck/’Merica Day— Dress up in your finest
‘merican attire and show your redneck pride
Tuesday—Hawaiian Day— Show your Aloha spirit, keep it
classy Genesee
Wednesday—Superhero Day—Dress up like your favorite
superhero
Thursday— Generation Day—Seniors dress up as senior
citizens, Juniors as parents, Sophomores as college students, Freshman as
elementary students and JH as babies or toddlers.
Friday--Blue & Gold Day—FB Players in jerseys, VB
player in jersey tops, both HS and JH students. Cheer squad in uniforms and
everyone else in bulldog blue, gold and white!
It goes without saying,
but please remind students to be tasteful and appropriate with the dress-up
days. We know it will be a little distracting, but we want it to be fun, and
inappropriate actions or dress detracts from the fun.
Hall decorations: Seniors—Commons, Juniors— Hallway by Locker
rooms, Sophomores—Foyer by Auxiliary Gym, Freshman—Hallway by Hanson & Tilleman and Junior High the hallway/balcony area by their lockers.
Please follow guidelines below or your class may be disqualified from the
week’s competition and decorations removed immediately
Hall Decoration
Guidelines
1) Try to use the clips
and tack boards to affix posters to the walls. If you must use tape, masking tape is the only
tape you are allowed to use. The BLUE masking tape is the best choice. Safety is top priority. Please do not cover
light fixtures, doors or windows. Walkways must be free of decorations and all
entryways accessible. If you want to plug something in please be sure to keep
cords on the side of the hallway and unplug at the end of each day.
2) Incorporating the
theme into your decorations is desired, but not required. Ideas should promote
positive, uplifting behavior, which exhibits good sportsmanship and good
judgment. There should not be any derogatory comments or implications, simply
have fun promoting school spirit!
3) Decorating can begin
on anytime this Sunday or next Monday that works with the advisor’s schedule.
Your class advisor must be present, so please arrange time to decorate with
them. We want all decorations up by Tuesday morning so we can enjoy them for
the week as well as the judging. Decorations must be cleaned up by Friday
5pm.
4) Students need to be
respectful of other classes and leave each other s decorations alone. We hope
this won’t be an issue, because we don’t want to have to take spirit points
away. Last year was awesome, and we hope to continue in that tradition.
Homecoming Royalty
ASB Officers will assist
in distributing the list of names for nominees. Cierra & Kaleigh will distribute and collect nominating sheets
during 3rd hour Monday to decide
the royalty candidates. Grades 9-12 will vote to nominate 4 boys and 4 girls
for the Homecoming Court. The top 4 vote-getters will become the court and
decide who is escorting who. Girls and guys will make arrangements through Mr.
Caldwell for drivers (over the age of 21) and their ride. Voting for the King
and Queen will take place Thursday 10/8 during lunch. Mr. Caldwell will man the
voting table. Mr. Caldwell will count the ballots and Mrs. DeRoche will verify
the vote.
Homecoming Rally
Friday, October 9th 1:40pm. Students will report to the gym.
We will start in the gym and then head to the football field, or stay in
the gym if it’s nasty outside. We will start the Pep Rally. The FB team will
take on the VB team in a VB match like last year. Once the match is over we
will head down to the field for the rest of the rally (or stay in the gym if
it’s raining). Once we’re down at the field we will have Class cheers and
competition, other activities TBA. We will have cheers led by the cheerleaders,
introductions of the teams, and great class competitions. We’ll finish up the
Rally with the Band playing the FIGHT SONG.

Homecoming Dance
Saturday, October 10th 9pm-Midnight
Location: GHS Commons.
Dance Etiquette: A
reminder about Dancing guidelines that are consistent with schools in the
region.
1. All approved guests must be in the 9th grade and not be older than 20 years of age.
2. All approved guests are subject to the same
rules as GHS students, and the GHS student is responsible for their guest and
their guest’s behavior.
3. Front to back dancing will not be allowed. Violations will result in being removed from
the dance.
Cost: $10 per person (this will include the cost of a
CD of dance pictures)
Out of Town Guests: 1 out of town guest per person. You are
responsible for your guest and their behavior. A sign-up sheet will be in the
office window. All guests must be signed up by 4pm Thursday October 8th.
Youth Volleyball Opportunities in Genesee
The Varnish Juniors
Volleyball Club here in Genesee would like 3-8 grade girls and parents to know
that we are planning to have both a U12 (for girls in 5-6 grades) and a U14
(for girls in junior high) club volleyball team this coming spring. We will also
be hosting youth clinics for younger players this winter. Informational and
planning meetings will take place in early November, so be on the look out for
more information. In the meantime, if you have any questions, please contact

**Let Everyone Play Day**
October
17 (Saturday) at 11:00: Rachel Bechtel has organized Let Everyone
Play Day, a community-wide baseball game for people of all ages and abilities
at Bear Field in Moscow. Last year many of the players were confined to
wheelchairs and the Moscow baseball team participated. This year our school has
been invited to participate. Everyone is invited to play or be a spectator and
there will be two games with a free barbecue in between. Mrs. Bardwell will
drive the white bus up if someone needs transportation.
Big Kettle Cook-off
The Big Kettle Cook Off
is on! Get a team together to compete or just come and enjoy the food! It
will be Friday, October 9th at the home football game against Lapwai.
Food will be served from 6:15-7:30 or until the food is gone. Prices are
$5 for adults and $3 for children 12 and under. The price includes all
you can eat soups, a water and a dessert. All proceeds go to the Genesee
Education Association Scholarship fund. We hope to see you there.
