Bulletin - 10/01/10

Bulletin last updated 10/01/10, 8:45 a.m.

JR/SR High School News

1.) Congratulations to the JV Football team who enjoyed a win over Prairie last night! Great job guys!

2.) Congratulations as well to the Volleyball teams who defeated Potlatch at Potlatch last night! Congrats!

3.) Genesee will be hosting the annual Pea and Lentil Volleyball tournament here at home tomorrow beginning at 8:00 a.m. Best of Luck Bulldogs!!

4.) There will be no Jr. High Football practice today.

5.) It's a by week for the football team. *All athletes need to clean out your locker room lockers and take all items home to be laundered. Thank you!

6.) FFA members remember fair clean-up this Sunday starting at 9 am. Bring brooms and shovels. This is a Yearpin point opportunity for those FFA members who did not take an animal to the fair. ALL help is invited and welcome.

7.) Congrats to the FFA Land and Soils Team they placed 3rd on Tuesday in district competition.

8.) Rachel Krick has Ms. Allington's yearbook. If you did not make it to the signing party and would like to sign it, her yearbook will be in Mrs. Booth's room until the end of the day today. Then it will be mailed to her.

9.) Any student that wants to join IDFY come see Mrs. Sperber (7th -12th Grade) to get a registration form. You do not need to fill out a new form if you were a member last year (however, you do need to locate your IDFY card).

10.) Volunteer Opportunity: In case you were out of the building yesterday, Tauna Tyler, ASB President, visited classrooms yesterday afternoon to present a volunteer opportunity to students. The Genesee PTO is in need of volunteers to help with their annual Harvest Carnival. This is a great event for the youth of our community, and a wonderful chance for older students to 'give back' to their school and community. (FYI, it also looks good on your resume for scholarship applications.) If you would like more information or are able to lend a hand, please contact Tauna Tyler or see Mr. Caldwell. Volunteering is rewarding - give it a try!

11.) Happy Birthday to Ryan Frasure!

12.) ASB officers please plan to meet with Mr. Caldwell today during Activity Period to discuss Homecoming Activities. Thank you.

Bulletin - 9/30/10

Bulletin last updated 9/30/10, 8:30 a.m.

Dressing for the Weather

Our weather is sunshiny and warm and has a summer feel, but fall is upon us, and BEFORE we have a change in weather, now is a good time to remind parents and students to dress appropriately for the weather. Layers in the fall is always a good choice. Sensible shoes ALWAYS - it's time to retire the flip flops, and please remember to have regular shoes for outdoor PE. *Remember that recesses will nearly always be outdoors, and yes, sometimes that means even if it's raining or blowing, so be prepared with jackets and hats. The school has a very limited supply of extra clothing, and calls to home for rescue clothing will be limited. So make good choices. *TIP: A lightweight pair of sweat pants, dry underthings and socks can roll up and fit nicely into a gallon zip lock bag, which can be stored in the bottom of a student's backpack or in their cubby at school for emergency use.

PICTURE DAY

TODAY, September 27th is picture day at Genesee Schools! We will be doing individual pictures, class groups and High School Fall Sports. Order forms will be sent home with students soon so be watching. *There is one form for individual pictures, and a separate form for the class group picture if you choose to purchase.

*Please complete separate order packets for EACH child in your home and include payment. This is the best way to insure your order is handled properly. Additionally, correct change, or check for the amount of purchase needs to be handled at home. The office is not equipped to make change for 300 picture packets and we will not cash checks.

Attendance Reminder

Just a reminder: With the shortened number of attendance days for this school year, there is also a reduction in the number of absences a student may accrue. Elementary students may miss a total of 16 absences in the school year (it was 18 prior). Secondary students can miss only 8 days a semester before credit "may" be denied. Only the school board can deny credit for excessive absences. Students will come up for review by the attendance committee once 8 absences have accrued, and prior to any recommendation to the board. *Parents please keep in mind that if your student is absent for injury or illness due to a doctor's order, providing that information to the office is very important for attendance review. ALL absences count (other than school approved field trip). But should your child come before the attendance committee, medical documentation can help support the need for excessive absences, and thus keep a student from credit denial.

Bulletin - 9/23/10

Bulletin last updated 9/23/10, 8:32 AM

PICTURE DAY

MONDAY, September 27th will be picture day at Genesee Schools!
