Bulletin - 8/31/11

Bulletin last updated 08/31/2011 11:40 a.m.

Welcome Back

Today is the first day of school for the Genesee School District. It is a regular attendance day with Elementary Student release at 3:15 and Secondary at 3:20. Busses will run routes at 3:20 p.m.

Emergency Care Forms

If you did not send an updated Emergency Care Form in with your child on the first day of school, please remember this is required information and must be returned ASAP. The form was mailed to you in the Welcome Back packet you received this summer. If you have lost that form, one can be picked up from the office or can be printed from the website. Please remember to address the 2 forms on the reverse side of the Emergency Care Form. One is the Internet Use Contract which is simply an agreement between parent, child and district that computers at school will be used for educational purposes only. The other is an Authorization for Disclosure which is a release allowing us to contact you by email regarding your child. Both documents are optional, however, if a student does not have a signed Internet Use Contract they will not be allowed to use school computers for projects during scheduled lab time with their classes. If the release to contact by email is not signed, classroom teachers may not communicate with you by email about your child's progress - even if you initiate the email conversation.

JR/SR High School News

1.)Congratulations to the volleyball teams who played a tri-match in Cottonwood last night against both Prairie and Summit Academy and claimed victories all around!!

2.)Secondary Student Schedules, locker information and meal accounts are all available through Lumen Websis. Check it out!

3.)ATTENDANCE Reminder: Any time a student is absent from classes, a phone call or note is needed from a parent to verify that absence. Notes from doctor or dentist offices will help to verify an absence as medically excused. *Please note that ALL absences for any reason, that are not field trips, are counted against the attendance rule. Being medically excused does not remove the absence from the count, it merely gives the attendance committee something to take into consideration should a student have excessive absences. Finally, please remember, secondary students are allowed only 8 absences per semester. A 9th absence will result in review by the attendance committee, and may result in loss of credit if referred on to the School Board. The School Board makes final determination regarding loss of credit.

One more reminder: Secondary attendance is taken by the class period, so when possible, it is best that students plan appointments so that the same period is not being missed each time. Loss of credit is determined by attendance per class. Additionally, for students participating in Athletics or School Related Activities, attendance for 4 out of 7 periods is required in order to participate in either practice or events.
